Water Resources Studies in Headwaters of the Blue Nile Basin: A Review with Emphasis on Lake Water Balance and Hydrogeological Characterization

چکیده

The Lake Tana Basin, comprising the largest natural lake in Ethiopia, is source and uppermost part of Upper Blue Nile Basin. In this review paper, research papers, mainly on rainfall-runoff modeling water balance, hydrogeology, have been reviewed. earlier balance estimation attempts used simple conceptual statistical approaches calculate a monthly timescale. More recent has using advanced semi-physically or physically based distributed hydrological models. Accordingly, mean annual precipitation over was estimated range 36.1–53.1%; evaporation at 45.3–57.5%; river inflow (all gauged ungauged) 43.6–63.9%; (lake) outflow 0–9.2%. With few isotope studies, groundwater are found insignificant. Different studies had recharge, ranging from 57 mm to 850 mm. basin heterogenous aquifer system consisting different volcanic rocks alluvio-lacustrine sediments. Generally, with low TDS, Ca–Mg–HCO3 type, isotopically relatively enriched, high Na–HCO3 depleted, types identified. major gaps such as hydraulic characterization, surface-groundwater interaction, flow Hence, future shall focus resources, so that existing surface updated usage options explored.

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

A water balance model of the Upper Blue Nile in Ethiopia

This paper describes the development and validation of a water balance model of the Upper Blue Nile in Ethiopia. A major requirement of any modelling attempt is the availability of climatic and hydrological data. However, for the Upper Blue Nile, only a limited number of observation sites are available over a very large area. As a result, the model described here is a grid-based water balance m...

Decision Support Systems for Integrated Water Resources Management with an Application to the Nile Basin

This article presents decision support system (DSS) guidelines for water resources planning and management in systems with multiple objectives, multiple disciplines, and multiple decision makers. The guidelines are based on experience with DSS development in Africa, Europe, and the US. A prototype DSS for water resources planning in the Nile Basin is also described. The article advocates that t...

Water for Energy and Food: A System Modelling Approach for Blue Nile River Basin

The world is facing a more water constrained future as a result of urbanisation, population growth, industrialisation and the emergence of climate change. This has direct impacts on the resilience and performance of the energy and food industries, as water plays a key role in electricity generation processes and agriculture production. Water, energy and food dependencies are more evident in tra...
